This is how I started my business

I had worked at a local hotel casino for 27 years and was looking for a change. My daughter had started doing nails and loved it so I thought I would do it as well. The salon she worked at became available for sale about the time I graduated from cosmetology school so we decided to take the plunge and buy it. We have been in business since 2005 and recently moved to a new more spacious location about 1 1/2 blocks from our original location and we love it!

My business provides these goods and/or services

We are a full service salon with 6 stylists, 4 manicurists and an esthetician. We pride ourselves on being a friendly, comfortable yet upscale salon and we love our customers. Our technicians are extremely passionate about what they do and it shows in their work. We also retail Bare Minerals Cosmetics, Nicolas and Sexy hair products as well as Cosmedix Skin products. We also do spray tanning for that safe all over glow.

Lessons Learned

  • you have to love what you do
  • you must have a good business sense -
  • customer service is absolutely the most important way to make sure your clients want to come back
  • you will be working harder and longer than you ever thought you would but you are working for yourself and that is wonderful
