Local Movie Theaters
Reno movie theaters are busy with local residents who love their movies. The metro area supports four multi-screen theaters, a cinema at the Grand Sierra Resort, film features at the Fleischmann Planetarium, and, get this, a real-live functioning drive-in. We also have the Reno Film Festival for those who just can't get enough. But wait, there's more; the new Legends at Sparks Marina center will have another multiplex, this one showing 3D flicks, and our first IMAX screen is on the way.
Shopping Malls
Shopping malls in Reno are coming of age. Shopping centers are springing up in every part of the metro area. Besides new shopping malls, older shopping centers are getting facelifts, there is an ongoing influx of small boutiques and shops, and shopping districts like Wells Avenue, California Avenue, and downtown Reno are being revitalized.
Snow Play Areas
Snow play areas and sno-parks abound near Reno and up around Lake Tahoe. Snow play areas in Nevada are somewhat informal, while over in California there is a Sno-Park program run by the California Department of Parks and Recreation, with the assistance of several other agencies. Many of the Lake Tahoe ski resorts also have snow play areas.

Road Conditions

Reno snow occurs mainly from November through March, with snowfall averaging 23.5 inches per year. Reno's location at the western edge of the Great Basin and in the rain shadow of the Sierra Nevada mountains results in some interesting and unpredictable winter weather. Reno has a dry climate with an average of 7.48 inches of precipitation, but this can and does vary widely from year to year.
