Elena Hight of South Lake Tahoe, CA, will be competing in her second Olympics at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympic Games. She was a competitor at the 2006 Winter Games in Torino, where she came in 6th in the women's snowboard halfpipe. The 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympic Games run from February 12 to 28.

Hight's Halfpipe Record

Hight, 20, is a relative newcomer to Olympic level halfpipe competition, but she is making herself known in world-class contests. She was 5th at the U.S. Snowboarding Grand Prix, has appeared on the World Cup circuit, and made a first Olympics appearance at Torino in 2006. In 2003, Hight was the first woman to score 900 in a halfpipe event. Look for Hight to be a serious medal contender at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympic Games.

What is Halfpipe Snowboarding?

Halfpipe snowboarding is a competition where each boarder performs a series of tricks and maneuvers in an area shaped like a pipe cut in half the long way. A panel of judges grades style and difficulty to give the rider a score.

Hight's halfpipe teammates on the 2010 U.S. Snowboarding Team are Gretchen Bleiler, Aspen, CO, Kelly Clark, Mt. Snow, VT, and Hannah Teter, Belmont, VT.
