We started 2011 with some welcome positives - new governor replacing a failed and deeply unpopular one, one of the best seasons ever for Wolf Pack football, including a big win in the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl, and an epic snow pack in the Sierra, ensuring a great season at Reno / Tahoe ski resorts and plenty of water to fill depleted reservoirs. There were other positives as well, but tragedy grabbed the big headlines, from the IHOP shooting in Carson City to the fatal crash at the Reno Air Races to the wind-whipped Caughlin Fire that destroyed 30 homes in southwest Reno. Through it all, though, the local community stepped up with whatever aid and comfort was needed. We may get battered around in the Reno area, but we keep getting back up and moving ahead.
