Buy from Locally Owned Reno / Tahoe Businesses
Shop locally owned Reno businesses and stimulate our own economy. Keep our money circulating in the community rather than sending it away to faceless corporations and foreign countries, like China.
Black Friday in Reno
Black Friday in Reno is the busiest shopping day of the year. Most of the big stores and shopping malls will be open early and stay open for extended hours. Shoppers will find lots of bargains on all kinds of merchandise as retailers try to make the best of what is predicted to be a dismal holiday shopping season.
Shopping Malls, Centers, and Districts
Reno / Tahoe shopping has quickly made major progress. In just the last few years, shopping centers big and small have sprung up in every part of the metro area. This has been accompanied by facelifts at some of the older centers, an influx of small boutiques and shops, and the revitalization of some fun and funky shopping districts like Wells Avenue, California Avenue, and downtown Reno.
Reno and Sparks Thrift Stores
When I was in college, a newlywed, and broke, I discovered thrift stores. These places are fun and save you a bunch of money. Our Reno / Tahoe thrift stores are a motley lot, but that's part of the fun. Poke around and you are guaranteed to find something useful. Another plus; stores run by non-profit organizations do not charge sales tax (7.375% in Washoe County).
Downtown Reno's Riverwalk District
The Riverwalk District is downtown Reno's shopping area. Visit shops, boutiques, art galleries, and other attractions while you stroll along the Truckee River.
Ethnic Markets & Specialty Food Stores
If you want to sample something besides boring American fare, try shopping at one of these food merchants. Be it Russian, Asian, organic, or natural, you aren't likely to find the inventory in these stores reproduced at your standard supermarket.
California Avenue Shopping District
Near downtown Reno, California Avenue shopping includes a fun mix of interesting shops and restaurants.
