The Bottom Line
The Wild River Grille is a pleasant choice for lunch along the Riverwalk in Reno (I have not eaten dinner here). It is within easy walking distance for those who work downtown and for visitors staying in nearby hotels. The food is tasty without being heavy, there is an excellent drink selection (including a full bar), and the service is prompt and courteous. I enjoy outdoor dining and the Wild River Grille makes it work. Their patio is next to the Truckee River, amply supplied with shade umbrellas, and gives people watchers a fine view of those strolling the river corridor.
Pros
- Prompt and professional service
- Nice outdoor dining patio, or eat indoors if you wish
- Full bar with weeknight happy hour
- Has a take-out menu and can be reserved for private events
- Central location - easy walking distance from much of downtown Reno
Cons
- For lunch, I think it's a little pricey
- No parking lot - must use metered street parking or the Parking Gallery two blocks away
- The bar dominates the indoor dining area
- Dogs are allowed in the outdoor dining area (not everyone will think this is a bad thing)
Description
- Wide variety of unusual menu choices, like roasted pear brushetta and Tuscan brie dip
- Normal stuff too, like cheese burgers and steaks
- Staff is friendly, attentive, and competent
- Mountain and river themed wall sculpture helps make the inside decor pleasant and relaxing
- You could spend more for lunch or dinner, but Wild River Grille is not on the cheap end of things
Guide Review - Wild River Grille Restaurant Review
The fact that the Wild River Grille is thriving in the same space where other restaurants have failed tells me they have hit on the right combination of good food and service that keeps customers coming back. I like the unique and casual atmosphere, Riverwalk location, and good service. I had a grilled chicken salad for lunch and my wife had the grilled chicken wrap, both of which were good and presented in a visually pleasing manner. There wasn't too much food, either, which many restaurants tend to serve. I find the gigantic portions annoying and unnecessarily wasteful. But since there are big eaters out there, Wild River Grille has menu choices specifically identified having large helpings. Should you like the idea or find it objectionable, be aware that dogs are allowed in the outdoor patio dining area.
