The Bottom Line

La Posada Real is a family run Mexican restaurant headed up by owner Abel Del Real. The atmosphere is casual and both service and food are good. There is a full bar that specializes in, what else, margaritas. La Posada Real is a good choice if Mexican food is on your dining out menu. On Friday nights a band roams the restaurant from table to table, playing requests from diners. It gets loud and a little rowdy in a fun way, so try another evening if you want a quieter dining experience.

Pros

  • Simple and tasteful decor
  • Fast service by experienced servers
  • Extensive menu with reasonable prices
  • Live music on Friday nights, full bar
  • You can even get breakfast

Cons

  • Food a bit bland for Mexican fare
  • Live music on Friday nights, if you don't like that sort of thing

Guide Review - La Posada Real Mexican Restaurant & Bar

I like this restaurant and I think you will, too. The decor is spartan compared to some Mexican restaurants, but I prefer it to places that are over done with flags, plants, and beer signs. We were immediately seated and had our food within minutes of ordering, which I consider a good thing since you are generally hungry when you get to a restaurant. Getting put in the bar and waiting doesn't do much for me. The chips and salsa served prior to the meal were quite tasty. I had a dinner of chicken enchilada and tostada and my wife had an enchilada and chili relleno. Both came with sides of rice and beans, with a choice of three types of beans. We both went for black, with refried and whole pintos as the options. The platters were ample, but not huge. I find the giant servings at some places annoying and wasteful - people simply don't need that much food at one sitting and I hate the thought of half of it being thrown out. I considered the food somewhat bland for Mexican, perhaps a concession to the gringo palate. There is, however, plenty of fiery hot sauce on the table should you wish to spice things up. You can order a la carte and choose from a variety of salads and soups. There are even standard American choices like hamburgers and grilled cheese sandwiches, though why anyone would come to La Posada Real and order that I don't know. We did not order any alcohol, but the margaritas going by on the way to other tables were big and looked tasty.
