Reno snow occurs mainly from November through March, with snowfall averaging 23.5 inches per year. Reno's location at the western edge of the Great Basin and in the rain shadow of the Sierra Nevada mountains results in some interesting and unpredictable winter weather. Reno has a dry climate with an average of 7.48 inches of precipitation, but this can and does vary widely from year to year.
