Definition: James W. Nye was governor of Nevada Territory from 1861 to 1864 and later served as a U.S. Senator. Nye County, Nevada's largest at 18,294 square miles, was named after him. Nye Camp, a Civil War-era military post just south of Reno in Washoe Valley, also got its name from him.
