Definition: The settlement of Galena, south of Reno, was established during the 1860s to provide timbers for the Comstock mines. It was named for the argentiferous galena ore found in the area. Today it is an upscale Reno suburb straddling the Mt. Rose Highway. The Summit shopping center is in this neighborhood.
