Definition: Eureka began life as a mining town and enjoyed its heyday around 1880. Today it is the seat of rural Eureka County. It is a historically significant Nevada town with one of two nineteenth-century courthouses in the state still serving their original functions. The other is the Storey County Courthouse in Virginia City. Eureka is about 190 miles from Reno on U.S. 50, the Loneliest Road in America.
