Haunted houses are really popular around Reno during Halloween, and it seems the scarier the better. Some of these haunted houses are well done and can be frightening even for those who think they are ready. Parents are cautioned to use discretion when taking children to these Halloween events.

Frightmare 2011 at Outlets at Legends
Open for 21 spooky nights, from September 29 through Halloween (October 31st). Frightmare is located in the parking lot outside of Scheels. The haunted house will be open for 21 nights, from September 29 through Halloween. Frightmare will be open on Thursdays from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m., and on Halloween night (Oct. 31) from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Not recommended for kids under 8 years old. Haunting dates for 2011 are October 6-9, 13-16, 20-23, 27-31 - The Slaughter House is a professional haunted house that is reportedly really scary. You might want to read the Reno Fright Fest Warning before going to this haunted event. The Slaughter House is inside the Meadowood Mall, 5000 Meadowood Mall Circle in south Reno. Use the entrance by the bus stop on the south side of the mall. Hours are 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, Sundays 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tickets are only available at the door for $12, with a $2 discount if you bring a canned food item or their coupon. Only open on Halloween, from dusk til ??? - Corpse's Cavern has 13 rooms of terror and 50+ tombstones splattered across the entrance. The sounds of terrified souls rip through the cold misty air while the shrill squeals of children shake your spine as they try to make it through the halls. Entry is free (donations accepted) and all ages are welcome. There will be a full scary version and a glow stick version for little kids where all the actors say "Happy Halloween." Really scared little ones only go through two rooms to meet the happy magic mirror that gives them candy. Corpse's Cavern haunted house was rated in the top ten in Nevada by victims (viewers) who voted on Haunt World.com.Corpse's Cavern haunts visitors at 6377 Moon Ridge Terrace in northwest Reno.
