Help Make Library Wishes Come True

Would you like to help the library offer the most popular books? Now there’s a way to do just that - through the Amazon Wish List. Due to budget cuts the number of books ordered from operating funds next year will again be lower than in previous years. You can help by purchasing a book through Amazon Wish List. The donations will help the library build its collection and make more copies available to check out.

Just go to the Washoe County Library and click on the link to Amazon Wish List. You'll see a list of titles that the library needs. Make your selection, purchase the book through Amazon, and your book will be sent directly to the library. Alternatively, you can go to Amazon.com, click on Gifts and Wish Lists and search for Washoe County Library. From there, the process is the same as above.

A personalized bookplate will be placed in the book acknowledging your donation. It can also indicate a donation in honor or in memory of someone. All donations are tax-deductible.

Community Resource Center

On November 1, 2011, the Community Resource Center moved from the Sierra View Library to the Sparks Library and the Downtown Reno Library. Services will be available 7 days a week. Call (775) 327-8370 for available hours.

Conversation Corner at the Sparks Library

Washoe County Library System presents this ESL (English as a second language) practice program. Informal conversation sessions will be held every Wednesday from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Sparks Library, 1125 12th St. Conversation Corner is open to all, and no advance sign-ups are required.

The group will practice speaking English around various scenarios that the average person encounters every day. The program is free and open to all patrons who want to improve their English.

Adopt a Periodical at your Favorite Library

Due to the ongoing budget cuts affecting Washoe County Library System, the number of magazines ordered next year will again be lower than in the past. But you can help by "adopting" a periodical - paying for a one-year subscription. The donations will allow the library to purchase popular magazines that would otherwise be eliminated.

Just visit your neighborhood library and ask to see a list of magazine titles. Make your selection, fill out a gift form and write a check to "Washoe County Library Gift Fund" for the amount of the annual subscription. The “sponsored” magazines will begin arriving at the library by January 2012. Donations are tax-deductible. To meet ordering deadlines, the donation forms should be submitted by August 25. For further information please ask at your local library, call 827-1885 or email chillyard@washoecounty.us.
