Events & Things To Do With Dad
Father's Day at The National Automobile Museum
Every Dad likes cars and Reno has the National Automobile Museum, one of the five best in the whole country. It's in downtown Reno at the corner of Lake and Mill Streets, with plenty of free parking. On Father's Day, Dads get in free when visiting with their families (at least one paid admission required). No sales tax is charged on purchases from the Museum Store, making it a great place to buy a gift for dad. Call (775) 333-9300 for more information.
Father's Day Special at Washoe County Golf Course
Take Dad to the Washoe Golf Course for a special free green fees deal on Father's Day - Dad plays free with at least one other paying adult. Ride the V & T Railroad
The restored V & T Railroad runs between Carson City and Virginia City on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays through October 31. This is a terrific outing for dad and the whole family, especially if someone happens to be a railroad buff. A steam locomotive pulls the train on Saturdays and Sundays, diesel power runs the route on Fridays. This is a popular activity, so get tickets in advance or you will likely be left standing at the depot.
An alternative is to go up to Virginia City and take the shorter round-trip ride to Gold Hill and back. This excursion has departures all day and advance reservations are not required.
Train Rides at the Nevada State Railroad Museum
Bring Dad down on Father's Day to take a ride around the Nevada State Railroad Museum on the historic Edwards Motor Car. Purchase tickets at the Wabuska Station with cash or check, no credit cards. The fare is $4 for ages 12 and older, $2 for ages 4 to 11 and Museum members, free for kids 3 and younger. Ticket price does not include Museum admission. Call (775) 687-6953 for more information. Rides will be available from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Museum is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Thursday through Monday.
Take Dad to a Game at Aces Ballpark
The Reno Aces will not be playing baseball at home on Father's Day weekend, but they will be in town the following week (June 17 through 24). Check the 2014 Reno Aces' schedule to see if a game might be something you can do with Dad. There are promotions at every game (including fireworks on Friday nights).
Truckee River rafting is a fun activity the whole family can do together, right in Reno. No driving required if you go with Reno outfitter Sierra Adventures. Call (866) 323-8928 to reserve your trip.
