This has been accompanied by facelifts at some of the older centers, an influx of small boutiques and shops, and the revitalization of some fun and funky shopping districts like Wells Avenue, California Avenue, and downtown Reno.

When I was in college, a newlywed, and broke, I discovered thrift stores. These places are fun and save you a bunch of money. Our Reno / Tahoe thrift stores are a motley lot, but that's part of the fun. Poke around and you are guaranteed to find something useful. Another plus; stores run by non-profit organizations do not charge sales tax (7.375% in Washoe County).
