The Bruce R. Thompson United States Courthouse and Federal Building in Reno was completed in 1996. Sierra white granite was used for the facade on the ground level. The upper floors are cast concrete colored to simulate the granite. The building houses the U.S. District Court for the District of Nevada and the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals. Nevada's U.S. Senators, Harry Reid and John Ensign, both have offices in the building, as does District 2 U.S. Congressman Dean Heller. The building is at 400 S. Virginia St., Reno, NV 89501.

Bruce R. Thompson was a federal judge born in Nevada. He attended UNR and received his law degree from Stanford. He worked in private practice for many years until becoming assistant U.S. Attorney of Nevada in 1942. In 1963, Thompson was nominated by President Kennedy to the U.S. District Court for the District of Nevada. He served until his death in 1992.
