About the Fleischmann Planetarium and Science Center:

The Fleischmann Planetarium and Science Center opened in 1964 as the Fleischmann Atmospherium-Planetarium. It was the first planetarium in the world capable of showing full-dome movies. Renovations and upgrades have kept technology at the Fleischmann up-to-date, including a Spitz SciDome digital projector capable of producing brilliant shows and 3-D images.

The unusual building is a hyperbolic parabaloid. Within its sweeping lines are the 60-seat domed theater, a science store, classroom, and gallery space for changing exhibits. The Fleischmann functions as part of the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR).

Shows and Exhibits the Fleischmann Planetarium and Science Center:

The Star Theater is the main attraction, showing SkyDome 8/70™ large-format films. There are those related to astronomy as well as feature films on a variety of other topics. The Star Theater is also used for the monthly Live SkyTonight Star Talk. Check out this article about Feature Films and Star Shows at Fleischmann Planetarium to see what's playing and when.

Admission to the Planetarium Exhibit Hall and science store is free. Exhibits are changed on a periodic basis, but there is always something interesting like In Perspective, Meteorites - Rocks from Space, and Perceptual Relativity. The Art/Space Gallery features rotating exhibits of artwork with some type of astronomy theme, like Portraits of Space.
