The Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows honors the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday, January 19, with a day of events and activities. The day begins at 10 a.m. with a service project at Miguel Ribera Park in southeast Reno. Following the project, the public is invited to a free barbecue lunch at the club's Donald W. Reynolds facility, 2680 E. Ninth Street in Reno.During the afternoon, there will be an assembly about the significance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Children will then be grouped by age to participate in a "Reflection Walk" through various stations featuring learning activities related to learning about civic responsibility, historical remembrance, and tolerance. The day ends with a screening of The Great Debaters from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

22nd Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday Celebration Dinner
The public is invited to this celebration dinner on Monday, January 19, hosted by the Northern Nevada Black Cultural Awareness Society. It will be in the Rose Ballroom at John Ascuaga's Nugget, 1100 Nugget Avenue in Sparks. There will be a cocktail reception at 6 p.m., followed by a dinner and program at 7 p.m. The featured speaker will be Michael Applegate, author and motivational speaker, whose books include "Making Dreams Happen" and "Raising a Brand New Bar!"For tickets, call the Northern Nevada International Center at (775) 250-5454. Tickets are $50 and cannot be purchased at the door.
