Nevada Chamber Music Festival - December 28 - 31. Some of the world's finest musicians will come to Reno to perform the masterworks of the chamber music repertoire. Among the concerts are "Chopin, Liszt and Friends – A Piano Showcase," performances dedicated to the music of Bach and Beethoven, and a New Year's Eve extravaganza. The nine-concert Festival will take place at South Reno United Methodist Church and the University of Nevada, Reno's Nightingale Concert Hall. You can buy tickets online from the website. "Home 4 the Holidays" Adoption Drive - Through January 2, 2012. Nevada Humane Society is trying to find homes for 1,200 dogs and cats during the Home 4 the Holidays Pet Adoption Drive! The holidays are all about family and friends. If you love animals, this includes the four-legged family members. Now, through January 2, adult dogs may be adopted for only $45, adult cats for $10, and kittens for $30. Senior citizens may adopt pets 6 years of old and older for free. Together we can make sure that all homeless pets in our community are truly Home for the Holidays! Come meet your new family member at the Nevada Humane Society, 2825 Longley Lane, Reno.   • December 3 – Cupcake Day as bakers compete and guests sample or buy their wares. Photos with Santa Claus.
  • December 10 – Local school choirs perform holiday carols and authors sign animal-related books.
  • December 17 – In Their Paws celebrity sleepover to raise funds for the animals.

Lights of Tanea - The Biggest Little Christmas Light Show in Reno - November 25 through December 31. The south Reno neighborhood centered on 16180 Tanea Drive hosts a big holiday light show complete with synchronized music. Lights of Tanea collects non-perishable food items for Evelyn Mount's Outreach Program and reusable clothing for Friends of Multiple Sclerosis. The lights are on Sundays through Thursdays from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. and on Fridays and Saturdays from 5 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. On Christmas Eve and Christmas Day it's from 5 p.m. to midnight. This is a very popular event - please follow the rules so everyone has a good time.

Christmas on the Comstock - December 2 - 18. Christmas on the Comstock is a series of events (mostly family friendly) held during the holiday season in Virginia City. The signature event is the Christmas Parade of Lights on Saturday, December 3 at 5 p.m. Other highlights include visits from Father Christmas, a craft fair, strolling carolers, and Christmas trains on the Virginia & Truckee Railroad running between Virginia City and Gold Hill on December 3, 4, 10, 11. Festival of Trees & Lights - December 2 - 4. This family-friendly festival offers something for everyone - designer decorated trees, school trees, wreaths, a full gift shop, a kids area, a Polar Express experience, and a community stage with local entertainers performing. You'll also enjoy a visit with Santa Claus. The festival will be inside the Montbleu Convention Center in South Lake Tahoe / Stateline.
