Christmas Lights Displays in Reno and Nearby Areas
Lights of Tanea - The Biggest Little Christmas Light Show in Reno - November 25 through December 25. The south Reno neighborhood on Tanea Drive hosts a big light show complete with synchronized music. Lights of Tanea collects non-perishable food items for Evelyn Mount's Outreach Program and reusable clothing for Friends of Multiple Sclerosis. The lights are on Sundays through Thursdays from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. and on Fridays and Saturdays from 5 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. On Christmas Eve and Christmas Day it's from 5 p.m. to midnight. This is a very popular event - please follow the rules so everyone has a good time.
Reno's Holiday Tree - from Nov. 22 through the holiday season. Reno's 2011 Holiday tree will be lit at a 5 p.m. ceremony on Tuesday, November 22. It's located in downtown Reno at the corner of 1st and Virginia Streets, next to Rink on the River and City Hall. It's a beautiful decoration for the city and lights reflecting on the ice while people are ice skating is worth a look.
Sparks Community Christmas Tree - from Dec. 2 through the holiday season. The annual tree lighting ceremony in Sparks will be held on Friday evening from 6:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. in front of the Saint Mary's Amphitheater on Victorian Avenue. The tree will be lit with 5,000 LED lights. The lighting ceremony is the evening before the Sparks Hometowne Christmas parade and celebration on Saturday, December 3.
Outlets at Legends in Sparks - through the holiday season. The Legends is fully decked out for the Christmas holidays. A big Christmas tree and outdoor decorations add to the displays you'll find in every store. You don't have to buy anything to enjoy Christmas cheer. Besides the lights, there will be lots of holiday promotions and other activities. The Legends is at the northwest corner of I80 and Sparks Blvd. in Sparks. For more information, call (775) 358-3800.
The Summit Reno - through the holiday season. The Summit is all lit up for the holidays. The central plaza features a big Christmas tree set next to an outdoor fire pit to keep you warm. There lights and decorations throughout this sprawling mall. The Summit is in south Reno at the corner of S. Virginia St. and the Mt. Rose Highway. To add to the winter effect, snowy Mt. Rose looms over the area just to the west. For more information, call (775) 853-7800.Hidden Valley Parade of Lights - through the holiday season. Reno's Hidden Valley neighborhood puts up the Parade of Lights along several residential streets. Residents decorate their homes, garages, doors, trees and windows with festive holiday lights and décor. Some lights are synchronized to music with animated displays and handcrafted outdoor decorations. Take Pembroke Ave. east from E. McCarran Blvd. and go past Rosewood Lakes Golf Course to enter the neighborhood. In the past, decorated homes have been mostly along streets on the south side of Pembroke. More Christmas Lights in Reno - Electrical engineer Jeff Kindell has built a Christmas display of over 25,000 lights at his home at 2380 Solitude Drive. He has computers running synchronized lights and accompanying music on 94.9 FM. Solitude Drive is in the Galena area of south Reno, off the Mt. Rose Highway.
725 Reeves Way in Reno - Sylvia Kaskie-Ling has been putting up Christmas lights on her northwest Reno home for about 37 years. She was figuring to stop with the big display, but popular demand prompted her to do it at least one more time. These days, she gets a little help from her handyman and son and daughter.
Synchronized Christmas Lights in Stead - Over 12,000 lights synchronized to music will brighten your Christmas season at this home in the Stead neighborhood of Reno. Aquatic Christmas Display in Sparks - For the 17th straight year, Sparks residents Steve Malaglowicz and wife Diana Croyle have set up an elaborate Christmas light display in their yard at 5556 Santa Rosa Ct. in Sparks. This year, their aquatic theme features whales in a Nativity scene. When you go, bring pet food or other items to donate for the Nevada Humane Society.

6670 Quantum Dr. in Sparks - This holiday light show is synchronized to four songs on the radio. Part of the scene are big snowflakes above the fence that go along with the music. Thank you to Sophia Takas for this tip. She says it is beautiful.
930 Spanish Springs Rd. in Sparks - Greg and Sharla Gerhardt have used two ponds as central parts of this extensive display of white and blue Christmas lights. The Gerhardts have been sharing their neighborhood decorations for over 10 years. Despite the street address, the lights are right in Sparks, near Reed High School
Silver and Snowflake Festival of Lights in Carson City - December 3. This holiday festival is from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Nevada State Capitol in Carson City. The State trees will be lit, along with the rest of downtown Carson City. There will be music, singing, and Santa and Mrs. Claus will arrive in a beautiful carriage and will give out candy canes. Festival of Trees & Lights in South Lake Tahoe - December 2 - 4. This family-friendly festival offers something for everyone - designer decorated trees, school trees, wreaths, a full gift shop, a kids area and a community stage with local entertainers performing. You'll also enjoy a visit with Santa Claus. The festival will be at the Montbleu Convention Center in South Lake Tahoe / Stateline. Ticket prices vary depending on which activities you choose.
