What is the Amgen Tour of California?
The 2011 Amgen Tour of California, the largest cycling event in America, will start at Lake Tahoe in 2011. Stage one of the Tour de France style bicycle race will begin at South Lake Tahoe with a lap and a half around the Lake. This first stage ends at Northstar-at-Tahoe Resort. The second stage begins at Squaw Valley USA and ends in Sacramento. In all, the Amgen Tour of California covers more than 800 miles, traveling between 15 host cities over the course of eight days from May 15 to 22, 2011.
Amgen Tour of California Bicycle Riders
Nineteen professional bicycle racing teams will be riding in the 2011 Amgen Tour of California. Participating riders in past tours have included top Tour de France competitors, World Champions and Olympic medalists such as Lance Armstrong, Tom Boonen, Oscar Freire, Paolo Bettini, Fabian Cancellara, Carlos Sastre, Ivan Basso, George Hincapie, Mark Cavendish and Andy Schleck.

Where to Watch the Amgen Tour of California
Getting to a good viewing spot at the right time is going to be a little complicated. The first stage of the Tour starts in South Lake Tahoe, circles the Lake, and ends at the Northstar-at-Tahoe resort. The second stage starts the next day at Squaw Valley USA. Volunteer for the Amgen Tour of California
Approximately 500 volunteers are needed for the overall start on Sunday, May 15, in South Lake Tahoe and the stage 1 finish in North Lake Tahoe at Northstar-at-Tahoe Resort. Volunteers are also needed for the stage 2 start at Squaw Valley USA on Monday, May 16.
