There are actually two annual free and reduced-cost dumping events in April for Washoe County residents. These dumping events are held in recognition of Earth Day and present a spring cleaning opportunity for residents to properly dispose of regular trash, yard waste, and bulky household items.
Residential Dump Days
Two Waste Management transfer stations will participate in Residential Dump Days. The 2012 dates are Saturday, April 7 and Sunday, April 8.
Reno Transfer Station - 1390 E. Commercial Row, Reno, NV.
Hours - Saturday and Sunday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Stead Transfer Station - 13890 Mt. Anderson Road, Reno, NV.
Hours - Saturday and Sunday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
During Residential Dump Days only, fees at the transfer stations will be reduced...
- Standard pick-up truck - $10.00 flat fee.
- Small pick-up truck - $6.50 flat fee.
Free Dumping for Household Appliances and Bulky Items
The following items will be accepted for free during Residential Dump Days...
- Refrigerators (there will be a fee if Freon recovery is needed)
- Water Heaters
- Stoves / Dishwashers
- Washers / Dryers
- Sofas
- Chairs
- Mattresses
- Box Springs
Annual Spring Free Dump Event at the Lockwood Landfill
You can dump your junk for free at Waste Management's Lockwood Landfill on these spring weekends in 2012. Facility hours on these dates are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. For more information, call (775) 329-8822.
- Thursday, March 31, Friday, April 1 and Saturday, April 2.
- Thursday, April 14, Friday, April 15 and Saturday, April 16.
- Thursday, April 28, Friday, April 29, and Saturday, April 30.
The Lockwood Landfill is east of the Reno / Sparks area. Take I80 to exit 23 (which is actually just past Lockwood) and follow the signs to the public disposal entrance. The official address is 2401 Canyon Way, Sparks, NV 89434.
