Who Needs to Get a Smog Check?
Smog checks are required for vehicle registration in only two of Nevada's counties - Washoe (Reno area) and Clark (Las Vegas area). The regulations apply to both gasoline and light-duty diesel powered vehicles.
Smog Test Failures, Waivers, and Exemptions
Certain classic and other old vehicles are exempt from smog check. Check the DMV website for what your options are should your vehicle fail to pass a smog test.Licensed Emission Testing Stations in Washoe County
Licensed smog stations, though not all, may also be licensed to perform emission control system repairs. Some repair may only be licensed to do testing and other facilities may do testing only and no repairs of any type. The DMV's list of licensed smog stations in Nevada tells you what operations each station is licensed to perform (use the search feature to narrow the list down to Washoe County stations).Electronic Filing of Smog Test Results
Smog test results are sent to the Nevada DMV electronically. Customers receive a paper printout of results for their records. When you go to register a vehicle or renew a registration, your emissions testing records will already be in the system. If you renew by mail or use a drop-box, a copy of the results should be included with other paperwork.Source: Nevada Dept. of Motor Vehicles (DMV).
