Halloween activities for just about everyone can be found in the Reno / Tahoe region. Families with children will find less scary fare such as pumpkin patches, safe trick-or-treating, and Halloween fun at the Washoe County Library. Adults can indulge in some serious Halloween partying if they so choose. For those brave enough, there are several haunted houses promising to deliver frightful experiences.

Halloween in Carson City
Carson City's rich and intriguing history is explored and theatrically relived during this 21st Annual Ghost Walk. "The Carson City Ghost Walk is a delightfully spooky and enjoyable way to experience Carson City’s Victorian Era and diverse past. Meet lingering spirits of the past, with many haunted and paranormal stories to take in." These 90 - minute guided walking tours are on Saturday, October 19, 2013, and depart every half hour from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. All tours begin behind the Firkin & Fox Pub on 3rd and Curry Streets. The last tour leaves at 2:30 p.m. The cost is $15 per person in advance. Tickets are $20 the day of the event if any are available.
The Mini Ghost Tour is designed just for kids. There will be four tours, starting at 10:15 a.m., 10:45 a.m., 11:15 a.m., and 11:45 a.m. Advance tickets are $5 for kids under 12 and $7 for older participants. On tour day, it will be $7 and $10 respectively. Costumes are welcome and there will be trick or treating on the mini walk. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

Halloween in Virginia City
Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, October 24 - 27, 2013, and Thursday, October 31, 2013 - Walking Ghost Tours start at 5:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. each evening, starting at the Silver Queen Hotel. Hear the stories of those that have chosen to never leave the Comstock and see their eternal resting places, including the Washoe Club. Special guest on the tours will be the Northern Nevada Ghost Hunter's Team and After World Paranormal. Tickets are $30 per person and must be purchased in advance. An after - hours ghost hunting tour is available starting at 10:30 p.m. Tickets for this late tour are $80 per person and must also be purchased in advance. For more information, call (775) 815-1050.
Thursday, October 31, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. - "An Evening with Poe" at the Haunted Halls of the Historic Fourth Ward School, 537 South C Street, Virginia City. Celebrate All-Hallows Eve with a self-guided, candle-lighted tour through the haunted halls of a 137 year old school building. Readings of Edgar Allan Poe's macabre tales will be hosted at the top and bottom of the hour during your tour. Do not expect a gory, commercial haunted house. October 12, 13, 19, and 20, 2013 - Come to Virginia City to ride the Pumpkin Express train on the V & T Railroad to Gold Hill and back. While at the pumpkin patch, you can pick your own pumpkin (included in the cost of the ride). Trains depart each day at 11:20 a.m., 1:20 p.m., and 3 p.m. Tickets are $15 for ages 13 and older, $10 for ages 4 to 12, and free for kids 3 and under. You can get tickets online to ensure a seat on these popular special trains.
October 31, 2013 - The Witches Delight special train on the V & T Railroad runs on Halloween and takes passengers into the night surrounded by goblins, witches and spooks. The run is a round trip between Virginia City and Gold Hill. There will be four departures - 4 p.m., 5 p.m., 6 p.m., and 7 p.m. Tickets are $12 for ages 13 and older, $6 for ages 4 to 12, and free for kids 3 and under. Halloween Events in the Carson Valley
Get down to Carson Valley for a variety of harvest time and Halloween fun in Minden, Gardnerville, and Genoa. The Carson Valley is about half an hour from Carson City and South Lake Tahoe, and an hour from Reno. Call (775) 782-8144 or (800) 727-7677 for more information.
Corley Ranch is located south of Carson City at 859 Highway 395 South in Gardnerville, Nevada. During October, Corley Ranch hosts a weekend pumpkin patch that includes a 3 acre corn maze, pig races, farm animals, bounce house, hay rides, a kiddie land, entertainment, and other activities. You can also buy pumpkins and visit the country store. Hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. Admission is $6 adults, $5 for seniors and kids ages 3 to 17. On Saturday nights from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., there is a Night Crawler Corn Maze for $7 and a Haunted Hay Ride for $2. Kids 4 and under are free for both of these acitivities. The Haunted Weekend in Carson Valley is a series of events running from Thursday, October 17 through Sunday, October 20, 2013. Come on down to enjoy ghost walks, meet ghost investigators, go on cemetery tours, and a ghost walk Genoa Cemetery tours. Some activities are free and some require tickets. Halloween Events in Fallon
Lattin Farms is about 60 miles east of Reno / Sparks, at 1955 McLean Road, Fallon, NV 89406. The big attraction at Lattin Farms is a huge corn maze that has a different theme each year. For 2013, it's "Star Gaze Corn Maze." The corn maze is open during October, on Fridays from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and on Nevada Day (October 25, 2013) from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Admission is $7 for adults, $5 for kids 4 to 14, and free for children under 4. The Lattin Farms Fall Festival is on Saturdays in October, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. There is a hayride, pumpkin patch, cow train, and farm animals to visit. The produce stand is open Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Lunch at the Country Kitchen is available from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday.
