Winter break camps are a great way to keep the kids occupied during the winter holiday season. The cities of Reno and Sparks offer camps with a variety of activities for grade school children and young teens. Winter Break Camps and Activities in Reno
Winter Holiday Adventures - The winter break camp is offered by the City of Reno Parks, Recreation & Community Services. These camps for kids ages 6 to 14 will be held at two different locations. Each camp operates from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. There will be two week-long sessions - December 24 to 28, 2012, and December 31, 2012 to January 4, 2013. No camp sessions on December 25 and January 1. Camp activities will include sports, arts and crafts, field trips, board games, contests and more. Vacation Station - Vacation Station operates during some school track breaks, summer vacation, and the winter and spring holidays. Kids ages 6 to 14 can participate in sports, swimming, arts and crafts, movies, and more. Vacation Station is located at the Evelyn Mount Northeast Community Center, 1301 Valley Road in Reno. Holiday Art Camps from VSA Nevada - VSA Nevada is holding two sessions of Holiday Art Camps at its Lake Mansion location, 250 Court Street in Reno. Each date block - December 26 to 28, 2012, and January 2 to 4, 2013 - has both morning and afternoon sessions, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Each day campers will experience art, creative movement and drama. Winter Break Workshop at the Nevada Museum of Art - Kids are invited to play, discover and experiment with art at the NMA's two-day Winter Break Workshop. Each day offers different media to explore, including clay and painting. Kids ages 8 to 12 will get to create their own works of art. Sessions are 9 a.m. to 12 noon, January 3 and 4, 2013. E.L. Cord Museum School of the Nevada Museum of Art - The E.L. Cord Museum School has several classes through the holiday season for toddlers through adults. Holiday Art Workshop at The Discovery - The Terry Lee Wells Nevada Discovery Museum is presenting this four class series. Kids ages 7 and up will create wreaths, ornaments, cards, gift wrap, and more. Workshop dates are December 2, 9, 16, and 23. Christmas Capers - The winter break program offered by the City of Sparks is named Christmas Capers. The program is for children in kindergarten through 6th grade. There will be two sessions, each going daily from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. - December 26 to 28, 2012, and January 2 to 4, 2013. All will be at the Sparks Recreation Gym, 98 Richards Way. The program offers field trips, sports, games, crafts and more. The fee for Sparks residents is $75 per week or $36 per day. It's $90 per week or $43 per day for non-residents. 'Kids Night Out - Parents Night In' Holiday Program in Sparks - The City of Sparks Parks and Recreation Department is offering the 2nd annual 'Kids Night Out - Parents Night In' program on December 15 at the Alf Sorensen Community Center. Children ages 7 to 12 can enjoy an evening filled with games, swimming, and pizza while their parents have a quiet night in or do some last minute holiday shopping. Hours are 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Cost is $10 for residents of Sparks $12 for everyone else. The Alf Sorensen Community Center is located at 1400 Baring Blvd. For more information, call (775) 353-2385.
