The 2013 Reno National Championship Air Races take to the skies from September 11 through 15.
New procedures for pilots and aircraft, along with safety enhancements for spectators, were implemented in 2012 by the Reno Air Racing Association (RARA) following the fatal crash at the 2011 Reno Air Races. The result was a fun and incident-free event in 2012, with the same expected for the event's 50th anniversary this year. Changes race fans will see include moving the race course further from the grandstands and barriers in front of the spectator area.
Featured aerial performers at the 2013 Reno Air Races will be the Patriot Jet Team and Jetman, who will be making one of only two U.S. appearances this year in Reno. There will be plenty of other aerobatics and static displays featuring a wide variety of vintage flying machines and the latest in military aircraft.
The Reno Air Races are a terrific family event. Get details about tickets, parking, shuttle service, and more, from my "Reno National Championship Air Races" article.
