I know it's still summer, but you need to plan ahead if you want to get tickets on the 2013 Polar Express™. It has sold out every year since it started running on the V & T Railroad.
According to information on the V & T Railroad website, tickets sales start on August 15, 2013. There is no information as yet about prices. It looks like the schedule will be similar to last year, with trips on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays and departures at 5 p.m., 6:30 p.m., and 8 p.m. The first 2013 Polar Express™ weekend will be November 22 - 24. The one hour ride leaves from the V & T Eastgate Depot on Highway 50 (4650 Eastgate Siding Road). Tickets will also be available by phone at (775) 721-6255.
This officially licensed Polar Express™ experience is based on the movie of the same name. Included are hot chocolate and cookies, a keepsake silver bell, entertainment by characters from the movie, a visit from Santa Claus, and a reading of the book by Chris Van Allsburg. Passengers are encouraged to wear pajamas, just like in the movie.
You don't have to wait for winter to enjoy a train ride. For family fun during the summer months, it's hard to beat a ride on one of the many excursion railroads running in Nevada and nearby northern California.
Two other Polar Express™ trains will be running in northern Nevada and California. Visit their websites for details - Nevada Northern Railway in Ely, and the California State Railroad Museum in Sacramento.
