The 77th Regular Session of the Nevada Legislature opens in Carson City on Monday, February 4, 2013. As you would expect, there are some significant differences between what Republican Governor Brian Sandoval has offered up in his budget and what the Legislature (both houses controlled by Democrats) is disposed to go along with. Under Nevada law, legislative sessions are limited to 120 days every two years, giving both sides a known time frame within which to work things out. Sometimes this works and sometimes it doesn't. We'll see come the final day of the 2013 regular session on June 3.
Adding to the political fun will be the seating of quite a few new members who were chosen by the voters in the 2012 general election. There will also be new leadership for both parties in the Assembly and Senate. Stay tuned for more as the session progresses.
