The first, presented by Brian J. Whalen, is "University of Nevada Facilities History." Whalen will deliver an entertaining history of the University of Nevada, Reno from its founding in Elko in 1874, through its move to Reno in 1885, and up to the present. Whalen's presentation will be on January 23.
At the next talk, on February 27, Debbie Hinman will present "History of Reno Schools." This presentation will examine the evolution of schools and education from the country schoolhouses in the area's earliest settlements through the Ferris - designed architectural gems of the early 1900s to today's expansive structures.
These "Free Lectures from the Historic Reno Preservation Society" are offered on the fourth Wednesday of the month. Check the article for more information about these programs and those in March and April. All talks start at 7 p.m. and are at the Mt. Rose Elementary School, 915 Lander Street in Reno.
