After Nevada Wolf Pack head coach Chris Ault announced his retirement on Friday, December 28, 2012, the search for a replacement began immediately.

By the second week of January, the decision had been made to hire Texas A&M's special teams coordinator and tight ends coach Brian Polian. His acceptance came shortly thereafter, with the hiring being confirmed by the Nevada Board of Regents. Polian's contract calls for a first-season salary of $475,000, with several perks and possible bonuses that could add considerably to that sum over the 5 year term of the agreement.

In addition to working at Texas A&M, Polian has held positions at Stanford, Notre Dame, UCF, and Buffalo. Nevada will be his first head coaching job.

I feel that this is a good move for the Nevada football program. Brian Polian brings with him a good resume from several major college football programs. I feel he will recruit some good quality players for the team on both sides of the ball. I particularly hope there will be changes made on the defense. A big improvement needs to be made on defense from previous years that gave up too many yards, points, and leads in the fourth quarter. Congradulations to Coach Polian, and I wish him much success at Nevada!
