In 2012, we were thankfully spared the non-stop series of tragedies that plagued the Reno region in 2011. In January, however, the Washoe Drive Fire just south of Reno burned some 30 homes and over 3,000 acres. It looked like a bad omen, but the remainder of 2012 was free horrendous events like the Reno Air Races crash and the IHOP shooting in Carson City. Much of the news revolved around politics and sports. Due to Nevada's status as a battleground state in the 2012 election, we were carpet bombed for months with political ads and visited by campaigning politicans of every stripe. We kept the same president, elected four new members to the Reno City Council, saw the end to a consolidation agreement between Reno and Washoe County fire departments, and were shocked by the sudden retirement of Wolf Pack football coach Chris Ault. Check out my article for details on these and other stories from 2012.
