It's naughty to throw your natural Christmas trees in the trash or illegally dump them in the desert after the holidays. For proper disposal, take trees to be recycled through the annual Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful Christmas tree recycling program. From December 26, 2012 through January 13, 2013, there will be three places around the area to drop off clean (not flocked) trees with all decorations removed.

Drop-off hours will be 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily. A donation of at least $3 is requested to support this and other KTMB programs. Recycling trees helps conserve landfill space, reduces illegal dumping, and provides mulch for various projects. This program is for residents only - no commercial drop-offs accepted.
KTMB uses volunteers to help out at the recycling locations. Shifts are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. For more information or to sign up, call (775) 851-5185.
The trees are chipped into mulch and used for weed abatement and to prevent erosion in park, river, and open space projects. Mulch also can be picked up for free by residents. The program has recycled over 90,000 Christmas trees that would have otherwise suffered a wasteful end.
