There is a nice variety of activities going on this Saturday and Sunday, October 6 and 7. Each has something of interest for just about everyone, and one is particularly suited to families and kids. If you are ambitious and have the energy, it's possible to take in at least part of every activity since they all are happening on both days

Kokanee Salmon Festival - This family oriented free event is at Taylor Creek Visitor Center on the California side of Lake Tahoe. Both days are full of activities to help you learn about the Lake Tahoe environment and have fun doing it. Events are centered around the annual fall Kokanee salmon spawning run up Taylor Creek.
Eldorado Great Italian Festival - This lively affair turns downtown Reno into Nevada's Little Italy for the weekend. Everyone can enjoy free music from two stages, strolling street performers, grape stomping contest, activities for kids, and lots of Italian food.
Reno Celtic Celebration - Look for lots of music, dance, and unique athletic competition at the Reno Celtic Celebration. Bag pipe bands will play throughout the weekend, along with an assortment of dancers and Celtic music bands. Wander the grounds to see what you will find in the way of food, drink, and vendors with a variety of Celtic themed goods. The Reno Celtic Celebration is held at Bartley Ranch Regional Park in south Reno. This one isn't free - tickets are $10 a day or $15 for both days. Kids 12 and under free with an adult admission.
Nevada Wolf Pack Football - The Wolf Pack welcomes Wyoming to Mackay Stadium on Saturday, October 6. The game starts at 4:05 p.m. See my "Nevada Wolf Pack Football" article for information about getting tickets and attending games. Virginia City World Championship Outhouse Races - This is another of those free and quirky events that make visiting Virginia City a fun affair. The weekend starts with the Outhouse Parade at noon on Saturday, followed by elimination races and People's Choice Awards voting during the afternoon. The finals will start at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
