The Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City is a must-visit place for train buffs. It's also a terrific place for those simply wanting an enjoyable day at a first-class museum that just happens to be based on the railroading history of northern Nevada. And do bring the kids.

Railroads played a huge role in the commercial development of northern Nevada, from the time of the Comstock silver strike in Virginia City and continuing to the present day. The museum covers these historic developments, including two of the most important - the building of the first transcontinental railroad and the storied life of the world famous Virginia & Truckee Railroad.
Visitors to the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City can choose from several activities. The most popular is riding excursion trains around the museum, and the most popular rides are behind V & T steam locomotive No. 25. The steam train doesn't run every day excursion rides are offered, so check the schedule to be sure it will be fired up.
