Great Reno Balloon Race - The largest free hot air balloon festival in the nation takes off from Friday, September 7 through Sunday, September 9. This family oriented event is at Rancho San Rafael Regional Park in Reno and includes activities for everyone, plus one of the most colorful spectacles you'll see anywhere.
Reno Aces Baseball - For the second year in a row, our Reno Aces are Pacific North Division champions. The first two games of the championship series against the Sacramento River Cats will be played at Raley Field. The third game will be at Aces Ballpark on Friday, September 7. The 4th and 5th games, if necessary, will also be in Reno. You can get tickets in advance or at the Aces Ballpark box office.
hands/ON! on 2nd Saturdays - This monthly event at the Nevada Museum of Art in Reno includes free admission for everyone and lots of family-oriented activities both kids and adults can enjoy. In keeping with the Great Reno Balloon Race this weekend, the hands/ON! theme this Saturday, September 8, will be "Up, Up and Away! Art Takes Flight."
First Year Birthday Party at The Discovery - You are invited to come and celebrate the one year anniversary of the opening of The Discovery Museum in Reno. The party will be from Thursday, September 6, through Sunday, September 9. There will be special activities every day, including $5 admission (non-members) on Saturday. Nevada Wolf Pack Football - The Wolf Pack beat the Cal Bears last weekend in Berkeley, opening the season with a rare win on the road. The Pack is home at Mackay Stadium on Saturday, hoping to win game two of the 2012 season against South Florida. The game starts at 12:35 p.m. Here is the Wolf Pack schedule, including a list of games that you can see on TV.
Dog Daze Swimming Event at Idlewild Park Pool - The SPCA of Northern Nevada has partnered with the City of Reno Parks and Recreation Department and Idlewild Park Pool to hold its yearly Dog Daze event on Sunday, September 9, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The SPCA shelter dogs are brought for a day of socializing and swimming. The community is invited to bring their dog(s) to swim in the chlorine free kiddie pool with the SPCA dogs. The first 200 entrants will receive a free goodie bag and dog adoptions will be available. The event is free.
Dog Day at Melio Gaspari Water Play Park - On Saturday, September 8, bring your dog to Melio Gaspari Water Play Park at Lazy 5 Regional Park, 7100 Pyramid Way, Spanish Springs. Dogs must be leashed and current on all vaccinations, including rabies. Limit of two dogs per person. Dogs are admitted for free, but humans are $3 per person. Hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Virginia City International Camel Races - On Saturday and Sunday, September 8 - 9, the Virginia City International Camel Races will be a fun way to enjoy the sights and sounds of the historic Comstock at Virginia City. There are also ostrich and emu races, plus a variety of parades and specialty acts.
2012 Tahoe Expo - The 2nd Annual Tahoe Expo will be on September 8 - 9. It is a series of geotourism activities designed to "show visitors the hidden natural sides of Lake Tahoe while showcasing a new, collaborative, sustainable, and four-season geotourism model. Visitors will be able to go on guided bear and wild mustang photo safaris, take paddleboard yoga classes on the lake, see Lake Tahoe from beneath the surface, and go into the wild with local naturalists to understand local ecosystems and restoration efforts." Check the Tahoe Expo website to see the different activities available. You can sign up and pay the fees online.
