It's not too lake to adopt a rubber duck (or several) for the 2012 Nevada Humane Society Duck Race and Festival on Sunday, August 26, in Wingfield Park. You'll have a great time and help homeless pets while you're at it.

The highlight of the day will be around 15,000 bright yellow rubber ducks racing to the finish line in the Truckee River, raising money and awareness for the homeless pets in our community. The fastest rubber ducks will win prizes, including a New Orleans vacation, Sierra golf getaway, home entertainment package, Great Reno Balloon Race experience, and more. Every duck has a chance of winning a $400,000 cash prize.
The free Festival, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., includes carnival games and activities, food and drink, and live entertainment, culminating in the exciting Duck Race at 4 p.m. Nevada Humane Society mascots Hope and Lucky will be there, along with Bruno of the Reno Bighorns. You'll be able to adopt a real dog or cat at the Nevada Humane Society adoption booth.
Ducks can be adopted for $5 each at Nevada Humane Society (NHS), 2825 Longley Lane, Reno and online from NHS. Look for adoption tables at a variety of community events, farmers' markets, and businesses until the day of the event. For more information, call Nevada Humane Society at 775-856-2000.
