Reno area public parks offer everything from whitewater kayaking to just relaxing in the shade of a big tree. If your recreational preferences trend toward the latter, Bowers Mansion Regional Park is a good place to visit, and there is no entry fee.

Being in Washoe Valley south of Reno, Bowers Mansion Regional Park is a little out of the way. That can be a good thing, though, if you would enjoy a relatively uncrowded setting for a family picnic where the kids have a huge area to run and play. That relaxing I mentioned is enhanced by the quiet surroundings and plenty of places to get out of the hot sun.
Bowers Mansion is steeped in the history of the Comstock. Historic displays and informational signs around the old home of Sandy and Eilley Orrum Bowers explain the significance of this interesting area. Unfortunately, Bowers Mansion itself is currently closed while renovations are under way. At some point, public tours will once again be available. Meanwhile, you can take your own tour of the grounds at Bowers Mansion Regional Park.
