It continues to be pretty darn cold and December's snow drought is continuing as well. If you are hankering to get out for some winter fun anyway, check out the ice skating rinks here in Reno and up around Lake Tahoe. These ice arenas just need cold weather, no snow required.

Ice skating is an activity just about everyone in the family can try. It's relatively cheap compared to the ski scene - no expensive equipment or clothing required and you're a lot less likely to end up with a broken body. You can give this sport a whirl right here in downtown Reno at Rink on the River. There is a rink down in Carson City at Arlington Square and several more up at Lake Tahoe resorts. The most unusual by far is the Olympic Ice Pavillion at Squaw Valley's High Camp. Here you get spectacular views of the Sierra and Lake Tahoe, and get to skate where the 1960 Winter Olympics were held.
