Now that it's December, the Christmas and holiday season is in full swing. Along with shopping, decorating, and the general busyness of this time of year, you can enjoy a number of free activities and shows with friends and family. These include touring area Christmas light displays, sing-a-long caroling, and seasonal concerts like Handel's Messiah at UNR and Tuba Christmas at the May Museum.

For things to do that are a bit more kid friendly, check out the December events at the Washoe County Library. You'll also find some great family fun at the May Center in Reno's Rancho San Rafael Park. And don't forget the Sparks Hometowne Christmas celebration on December 2 and 3. The 25th annual Sparks Hometowne Christmas Parade, held in Victorian Square, starts at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
For a selection of other holiday activities that aren't free, but still entertaining and worthwhile, refer to my Christmas and Holiday Activities Guide for Reno. Here you'll find things like annual performances of The Nutcracker and other concerts, plays, and performances during December.
