Now is the time to enjoy taking an evening drive around the Truckee Meadows to view homes, shopping areas, and city Christmas trees lit up for the holiday season. When I was a kid, my parents took us out to see the light displays, and I did the same when mine were little. There's something magical about the lights that makes everyone smile and enjoy the holidays just a bit more. We don't have a bunch of snow right now for a white Christmas look, but it is a cheery outing anyway.

What many think is the best display is Lights of Tanea at 16180 Tanea Drive in south Reno. There is a spectacular light display and accompanying music you can tune to on 97.7 FM radio. Check out the website pictures for a preview of what looks like one of Reno's must see holiday light shows. Both Reno and Sparks have official city Christmas trees of over 40 feet tall. The Reno tree is downtown by Rink on the River and Sparks has their tree in Victorian Square. Our two biggest shopping malls, Outlets at Legends in Sparks and The Summit in south Reno, are all decked out and beautiful to behold even if you don't do the buying thing. Down in Carson City, the State Capitol grounds have a big Christmas tree and the downtown area is lit up for the holidays.

Somehow I’ve never though of Reno as a City but more of a resort. I imagine the light displays are very beautiful and worth the drive.
