The way you get Burning Man tickets is changing. Rather than an online free-for-all as in past years, most of the tickets will be sold via a computerized random selection process (sometimes referred to as a lottery) among those who register. For example, registration for the first round of 3,000 tickets will be from November 28 through December 11, 2011. For the second round of 40,000 tickets, you can register from January 9 through January 22, 2012. Those eligible to buy tickets will be contacted after each round. You'll need to provide a credit card number, which will be charged if you are chosen to get tickets.

Following these two random selection sales, 10,000 tickets plus any remaining from the previous sales will be offered on a first-come basis. There will be no sales at Black Rock City or at walk-up outlets (like the Melting Pot in Reno). There are quite a few details to this new system you should carefully read.
