Thanks to efforts by firefighters and county parks and public works department staff, only one outbuilding was lost. The park's Robert Z. Hawkins Amphitheater, Huffaker Schoolhouse, Western Heritage Interpretive Center, and historic ranch buildings escaped the flames. However, much of the vegetation and trail system were heavily damaged.

Caughlin Fire update - According to a press release issued by the Sierra Front Incident Management Team at 9:42 p.m. on Sunday, November 20, 2011, "Chief Mike Brown, Incident Commander of the Sierra Front Incident Management Team, reports that the Caughlin Fire is 100% contained at 1,935 acres." Twenty nine homes were destroyed or damaged to the point residents cannot occupy them. Several others received lesser damage. No one was killed as a direct result of the fire, but one firefighter suffered first and second degree burns and a man died of a heart attack while evacuating. Reno Fire Chief Michael Hernandez said investigators now believe the fire was started by arcing power lines that were whipped by wind gusts of up to 70 mph.
