A wildfire that started in the wee hours of Friday morning continues burning today. The last report I read said 20 homes had been destroyed and a wide area has been evacuated. The wind-driven blaze has been named the Caughlin Fire.
The area affected is a hilly area west of S. Virginia Street along both sides of McCarran Blvd. High winds have spread the fire and created extremely difficult conditions for firefighters trying to gain control and save homes. The City of Reno and Washoe County have declared a state of emergency.
Two good online sources for the latest news about the situation are the Reno Gazette-Journal and KTVN2 News. Twitter is another source of information.
