Thanksgiving Day (Thursday, November 24) marks the beginning of the winter holiday season and it is fast approaching. The day centers on food and eating, so here are some of your choices besides the obvious one of cooking up a big meal at home. If you want the meal without the hours in the kitchen, check out picking up a prepared Thanksgiving dinner from one of our local supermarkets. If you want to get out of the house, many local restaurants and casinos have good deals for eating out on Thanksgiving.

There are plenty of other Thanksgiving activities (besides food and drink) to keep you busy through the holiday weekend. Reno will have it's official Holiday Tree lighting on November 22, followed by ice skating at Rink on the River. Lots of other things to do are inside should the weather be less than pleasant. And should you be thankful about not being broke, there's always Black Friday shopping on the day after Thanksgiving. Folks with money are going to find some major bargains as retailers out there desperately try to lure shoppers into their stores.
A Thank You to John Ascuaga's Nugget - For the 50th straight year, John Ascuaga's Nugget and its employees will be preparing and serving a Thanksgiving dinner for over 1000 people at St. Vincent's Dining Room, 325 Valley Road, off 4th Street and just east of downtown Reno. Serving starts at 11:30 a.m. Such unconditional generosity benefits those who partake of the meal and lifts the spirits of the whole community. My thanks go out to The Nugget and its employees.
