Get a Seasonal Flu Shot

Flu season is here, which means it's time to check out the options for getting seasonal flu shots for your family. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that everyone 6 months of age and older get a seasonal flu shot. An alternative is the nasal-spray flu vaccine approved for healthy people ages 2 to 49 years. The 2011-2012 flu vaccine protects against three strains of the virus, including H1N1 (swine) flu.

Flu shots are offered through the Washoe County District Health Immunization Clinic and at various clinic locations run by area hospitals and medical centers. Medicare, Medicaid, and most other private and public health plans are accepted at many of these, but you should call ahead to make sure about your particular plan. Otherwise, you'll pay cash. Cash prices vary somewhat, so you can save a few bucks by shopping around.
