The mutant vehicles at Burning Man are only active for a week and until now, you had to be in Black Rock City to see them. A current exhibit at Reno's National Automobile Museum brings these pieces of rolling art to town for everyone to enjoy at an exhibit inside the Museum, out of the blazing sun and free of the playa dust that coats everything and everyone who sets up camp during Burning Man.

Mutant Rides: Origin of a Species is more than an exhibit of mutant vehicles. A whole street in the Museum has been given over to Burning Man and you'll also see some of the costumes burners wear for their time on the playa, along with a selection of photographs taken at the event. The exhibit is open now and will be on display through July 2012.
The National Automobile Museum is at 10 S. Lake St. in downtown Reno, next to the Truckee River. There is free parking for museum patrons. The Museum is open Monday through Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. It is open every day except Thanksgiving and Christmas. Regular admission prices are $10 for adults, $8 for those 62 and over, $4 for children 6 to 18, and free for kids 5 and under. For information, call (775) 333-9300.
