For a state that is scraping bottom in so many categories, Nevada is among the most progressive in recognizing the medical benefits of marijuana. We are one of 17 states and the District of Columbia with a medical marijuana program that provides an avenue for the legal possession and use of pot for specified medicinal purposes.
Nevada's medical marijuana program was passed by 65% of the state's voters in 2001. To obtain a medical marijuana card, Nevada citizens must have been diagnosed with a chronic or debilitating medical condition, including cancer, glaucoma, cachexia, seizures, severe nausea, severe pain, and persistent muscle spasms such as caused by multiple sclerosis.
Be aware, however, that every other aspect of marijuana use and possession in Nevada remains illegal. If you have a medical condition that may be helped by the use of this drug, consult with your physician and follow the medical marijuana program's rules to avoid hassles with the law.
