Hiking is a healthy activity the whole family can enjoy, even the dog on some trails. It's also almost always free to participate. Fortunately for us, Reno and vicinity are blessed with numerous hiking trails and there is something for every ability. If you want a pleasant stroll with views of Reno and across the Truckee Meadows, the Huffaker Hills Trailhead is right in the city limits. For something quite a bit more challenging, try the trek to the 10,776 foot summit of Mt. Rose.

Fall (officially started on Sept. 23) is the best time to hike the Reno / Tahoe region. Mild weather makes the outdoors especially pleasant at this time of year, and soon you will be able to enjoy the added bonus of spectacular fall color both down here in the Truckee Meadows and on the slopes of the nearby Sierra Nevada.
