The 2011 Special Congressional Election is about to begin. Starting this Saturday, August 27, registered voters will be able to vote early at various locations around Washoe County. You can vote early at any of these polling locations, but you must go to your designated polling place if you vote on Election Day, September 13. Early voting ends on September 9.

This special election became necessary as a result of the resignation of U.S. Senator John Ensign. Governor Sandoval selected Congressman Dean Heller to fill Ensign's remaining term, leaving Heller's District 2 House seat vacant. To summarize this long story, the election has boiled down to four candidates, the two main ones being Mark Amodei (R) and Kate Marshall (D). A Democrat has never won this seat. Recent polls, however, show that Marshall just may have a shot and the difference could be determined by who is most successful at getting out the vote for their side.
