Parks in Washoe Valley

( #about ) Washoe Valley, just south between Reno and Carson City, has some excellent public parks. People tend to view this area as just a place to travel through between the Truckee Meadows and Nevada's capital city, but there are good reasons to slow - Washoe Valley is a recreation destination worth visiting.

Davis Creek Regional Park, a Washoe County park, is in the forest at the northwest corner of Washoe Valley. You can stay cool under the trees while engaging in a variety of outdoor recreational activities - hiking, picnicking, fishing, camping, horseback riding. The shady campground charges $20 per night, but there is no fee for day use, including fishing in Davis Creek Park Pond (Nevada fishing license required).

Washoe Lake State Park is on the south and southeast shore of Washoe Lake. In stark contrast to Davis Creek, this park is in the open sagebrush of the Great Basin and affords expansive views of Washoe Lake and the Carson Range across the valley to the west, especially if you take the short hike up Deadman's Creek Trail. Camping is actually a little cheaper here and there is a day use fee of $7. You can get a feel for this park by taking my picture Tour of Washoe Lake State Park.
